In the sphere of video games there is a whole layer of projects, which, despite their potential and uniqueness, remained in the shadow of major projects. One of such underrated diamonds is “Realm of the Mad God” – an amazing mixture of RPG, shooter and mmorpg created by Wild Shadow Studios. This game is still alive and relevant, winning the hearts of players with its unique mechanics, dynamism and, of course, inexpressible atmosphere. In this article I will briefly talk about Realm of the Mad God.
Realm of the Mad God is a unique multiplayer online game in the genre of “roguelike” with elements of “bullet hell” and RPG, developed in 2011. Just think about it, how could you basically think to combine these genres. If still roguelikes with bullethells combined, then with elements of MMO no one has not done. The game has both positive and negative aspects, which, in my opinion, rather give it a unique character than being flaws. However, for certain players, these aspects can be critical points that prevent them from starting to play.
Strengths:
- A mix of genres: Realm of the Mad God combines a variety of genres – roguelike, top-down shooter, mmorpg. Players enter a huge world and fight hordes of monsters in real time, while avoiding multiple projectiles and enemy attacks.
- Co-op: One of the main features of the game is the ability to co-op (naturally, MMOs) with other players. Groups of players can team up to take down bosses and complete challenging missions together. This maintains a sense of teamwork.
- Class variety: There are a large number of classes in the game, so players can choose the style of play that suits them in this world of Bullet Hell.
It’s worth pointing out that the weaknesses of the game are tasteful. For me personally, the game is almost perfect, but for some players they can be significant disadvantages.
Weaknesses:
- Permanence of Death: One of the key features of roguelikes is the permanence of death. In RotMG, if your character dies, then with him in the grave go to the grave and all his accumulation. It is impossible to describe the whole range of emotions that you feel when you have spent a lot of time pumping the character (it is also worth noting that the levels in the game is only 20, which are pumped to a maximum of an hour. Further loot and bosses) .
- Visual style: The graphics and style of the game may seem dated compared to more modern games. This may put some players off, especially those who prefer higher quality visuals.
- Microtransactions: Microtransactions are present in the game and can affect the game experience. Some players may feel that this unbalances the game and creates a slight advantage for those who are willing to invest (but remember permanent death and breathe easy).
